Rattler Family, today was the first day of the United Way of the Fort Smith Area's annual Fill the Bus campaign to collect school supply donations for our area schools. Magazine Schools faculty and staff were on hand during the day today and will be on hand during the day tomorrow (Saturday, July 27) from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Booneville Walmart to take your school supply donations. Rattler Family, with the help of a grant from Dollar General, we have been able to support our Rattler Library on Wheels summer reading program and offer incentives for reading achievements of at least 20 minutes per day. If your child has been reading this summer and wants to go to the private reading incentive party at Daddio's Pinball and Arcade in Paris on Sunday, July 28, you must complete a permission slip (available at the two recently restocked book boxes in town) and return the permission slip to the administration building by 3 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, July 26) or you can email Karen Gipson (karen.gipson@magazinek12.com)). The bus will leave from the high school at 4 p.m. and return for pick up by 7 p.m. Admission and unlimited game time will be paid for through the grant. Rattler Family, here's a reminder that this school year (2024-25), ALL MAGAZINE STUDENTS will eat breakfast and lunch and have an afternoon snack for FREE! That's right FREE! Parents, we do need your help, though. On the first day of classes (Aug. 12), your student will receive a packet of free and reduced lunch application forms. Please complete and submit these forms as soon as possible as they will help us to ensure free meals for all of our students in the years to come. Rattler Family, what a great day of fun and learning as our student readers enjoyed their Dollar General reading grant incentive reward field trip to the Logan County Coal Miners Museum in Paris. Rattler Family, we hope you have enjoyed our "Lunch & Learn With Local Authors" summer series, and by our overwhelming turnout for each of the four sessions, it appears you have. We finished our popular series today with our fourth installment with longtime Magazine Schools basketball announcer and local author Mark Green, author of 26 books. Green spoke about writing styles, like the ticking clock technique, and about character development. He also read excerpts from his book "Prokofiev's Third Abduction: A Sir Cuthbert Novel" and took questions from students, student-athletes, faculty and staff and community member in the audience.
