Rattler Family, our senior high girls track and field team had just three competitors at Tuesday's Class 2A State Meet in Quitman, but they made quite a statement. The trio posted six Top 5 finishes, including two wins and a runner-up, to finish fourth in the state -- just four points from third place. Sophomore Elizabeth Merritt won state championships in the 1600M and 3200M runs, and sophomore Jailynn Sims finished state runner-up in discus. Merritt also finished fifth in the 800M run, Sims fourth in the shot and freshman Phoebe Hopper third in the 3200M run.
