Rattler Family, in 2013, Magazine alumnus Drake Thomas, then a sixth-grade student, suffered a cardiac arrest while playing on the elementary school playground while attending the after-school program. Magazine Wellness Coordinator Donna Robinson was the first to respond to the scene and began to perform rescue breathes. Magazine alumnus Brandon Delay, a high school student at the time and newly certified in CPR by Magazine coach Randy Loyd, arrived and began performing chest compressions. Former Magazine police chief and school resource officer Boyd Dan Hicks then arrived with an automated external defibrillator (AED) and began to use the device as part of the life-saving effort. Today, Thomas is married, and he and his wife, Cheyenne, have one child, a boy. Thomas now works in construction and loves to ride his motorcycle, play ping pong, go on float trips and spend time with his family. Magazine Schools and its faculty, staff and administration have and always will make the health, well-being and safety of our students one of our top priorities, and this past May, Magazine Schools was designated as a Heart Safe School on both campuses. Each campus has a Cardiac Response Team ready to act in the event a cardiac arrest should occur on campus. Help us share this amazon life-saving success story by liking and sharing this post.
