Rattler Family, Magazine Schools and Dollar General encourage Pre-K through 12th grade students to continue reading during the summer break with the incentive-based "Ratter Library on Wheels" Summer Reading Program. As part of the program, students keep a reading log documenting the number of minutes they read each day. A minimum of 20 minutes each day is recommended. Students reading 20 or more minutes daily will be rewarded with field trip experiences. Free books are available in the high school cafeteria. Rattler Family, Magazine Schools is offering several summer reading programs for its students. Its Rattler Summer Reading Challenge encourages Pre-K through 12th-grade students to continue reading throughout the summer. Computers are set up in the high school cafeteria for students to take Accelerated Reader (AR) tests on their summer reading selections. Students will receive prizes for completing their AR tests. The summer reading incentives are made possible through grants awarded to Magazine Schools through SOAR and Dollar General. Rattler Family, as part of its summer reading program, Magazine Schools will host its first "Lunch & Learn With Local Authors" session on Tuesday, June 18, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Our featured local author is Anita Beeler Downs, a 1981 MHS graduate and author of "Persons of Speech". Pre-K through sixth-grade students are encouraged to attend, but the session is open to their families, too, and everyone is welcome. Rattler Family, our senior high boys basketball players worked hard on the court and in the classroom this school year. As a team, the Rattlers finished the year strong with an overall 3.09 grade-point average with eight of the 11 student-athletes compiling a 3.0 GPA or higher and one student-athlete earning a perfect 4.0 GPA. Rattler Family, the Magazine FBLA Chapter will host a cornhole tournament fundraiser on Saturday, June 22, beginning at 10 a.m. in the old gym. The entry fee is $50 per team ($45 if teams pre-register) and $25 per team for Magazine students. The winner receives a cash prize based on the number of teams entered. All proceeds go toward the FBLA's national convention trip.
