Rattler Family, two students from our high school Educators Rising, Krisi Easley and Haylee Francis, along with their teacher, Ms. Davis, attended the Educator's Rising District Conference at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville yesterday (Tuesday, Nov. 15). During the conference, the students learned about the education program at Tech, what financial aid opportunities are available, how to succeed in college and about the Student Support Services for Teacher Prep at Tech. They also toured the campus and listened to a keynote address Capri Bell Salaam, the 2023 Arkansas Teacher of the Year. Salaam encouraged the students to be authentic in the classroom, to be lifelong learners and to practice self-care. Rattler Family, you have always been so generous when it comes to helping our students, and we'd like to invite you to help us, the Logan County Sheriff's Office Deputy Association and Magazine Police Department make Christmas so much brighter for some of our students by contributing to the annual Shop With a Cop program. All donations collected will allow us to help students enrolled at Magazine Schools during Christmas. On Dec. 17 at 10 a.m., students will partner with a police officer at the Booneville Walmart to pick out gifts for themselves and their families. Rattler Family, it's almost Thanksgiving, and the third-grade students in Mrs. Bolinger's and Mrs. Green's classes learned about the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and read the book "Balloons Over Broadway". Students researched the balloons that will be used in this year's parade, learning about the size of the balloons and fun facts about each balloon. Rattler Family, we congratulate Magazine High School social studies teacher Donna Riddle on being selected as a finalist for the Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative Corporation Teacher Appreciation Scholarship. She is one of four finalists who were selected, and the AVECC Scholarship Committee will visit the four finalists’ schools and interview a member of the school’s administration, one peer teacher and one student to discuss the nominated teacher’s attributes. The winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship. She was recognized for this amazing honor by the Magazine School Board during Thursday’s regular monthly meeting.
