Rattler Family and Students, here's a reminder that the annual Magazine Senior High and Junior High Beta Club Student Variety Show is coming up soon! A performance for the general public will be tomorrow (Sunday, Jan. 15) at 2 p.m. at Diamondback Arena. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Student school day performances will be Tuesday (Jan. 17) in the morning for junior high and high school students and in the afternoon for elementary students. Admission is $2. All proceeds from admission will go to offset the costs of the Beta Club's trip to the upcoming state convention. Rattler Family, we have some schedule changes and revisions for the remainder of the junior high and senior high basketball seasons. The Feb. 3 games at Johnson County Westside will be junior high girls and boys and senior high girls and boys beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Feb. 10 games against Union Christian at Diamondback Arena have been moved to Feb. 4 at noon, and Senior Night has been moved to Feb. 2 when Magazine hosts Deer at Diamondback Arena. Rattler Family, we recognize and reward good behavior and actions by our students here at Magazine High School. Beginning this semester, teachers can nominate a student who exhibits good behavior and/or actions that help others to receive "Rattler Bucks", which can be used toward the purchase of items like vouchers to the concession stand among other things. This program is funded by the Resilient Schools Collaborative/PBIS grant that the school received. Four students were recognized this week and received "Rattler Bucks" for vouchers to the concession stand: Brock Canada, Alan Downs, Joslyn Corley and Elijah Ward.

Rattler Family, the Polar Plunge for Arkansas Special Olympics fundraising campaign for Magazine High School principal Matt Binford and Elementary Principal Jared Higginbotham is heating up! The principal that raises the LEAST amount of money will have to participate in the Polar Plunge at Cove Lake on Feb. 18, but if both campuses each raise $500 for their principal, then BOTH principals will take the Polar Plunge. An anonymous donation of $25 was made to Binford's "W.I.T.: Whatever It Takes" campaign, and today (Wednesday, Jan. 11), a few high school students contributed $35 in person toward Higginbotham's "Plunging for Peyton" campaign, saying, "We wanna see our principal, Mr. Binford, take the Polar Plunge". For parents of student-athletes, here is a reminder that the Arkansas Activities Association's Dead Period will be Sunday, June 25, through Saturday, July 8. This is the two-week period when student-athletes may NOT practice and school athletic facilities are closed.
