Mrs. Sampley's 2nd grade class won the November attendance challenge with 98.2% attendance for the month. This is the second month in a row for them to win. We also had a 10 day consecutive streak with 100% attendance during that month. Thank you parents for making sure your students are here every day. It truly matters! For this outstanding achievement, they had a popcorn and movie party.
Mrs. Kellogg's 3rd Grade class has been learning about and exploring food chains. We dissected owl pellets and identified bones from many different animals. We found evidence to confirm the food chain. Animals eat plants for food, then animals eat other animals for food. All living things are connected!

Joey Shumate, Master Electrician, came to speak to fourth grade about what electricity is, how it works, and how to be safe around electricity. He talked about what and electrician does and how to become an electrician. He brought different types of switches, outlets, wires, tools and an inverter for the students to examine and handle. Students were even able to use a simple voltage tester on an outlet! Fourth grade is thankful to have a new member of our community share his knowledge and expertise with us!
A Recruiting Event for the U.S. Census Bureau is being held at the Magazine High School Library at 292 E Priddy St in Magazine, AR on October 21 from 3:30 - 6 pm. A representative will be there to assist and to answer questions. These are great temporary summer jobs. Nationwide, thousands will be hired to support their communities and get paid while doing it. Retired UAFS professor, Dr. Sarah Davis, visited 4th grade. She read to the class and shared a lesson about Cause and Effect. She helped the students to identify the causes of Alexander's Horrible, Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and then had students identify the causes and effects of water waves based on observations.

Allison Thompson, Miss UAFS, visited the 4th-grade classrooms on Friday, September 6, 2019. She shared her platform "We The People" and shared with the students the importance of voting and being active in our communities. She read to the class, answered questions, gave hugs and high fives, and even let the students touch her crown!

ACT prep classes will be offered at the high school July 1-12 for students currently in 10th or 11th grade. Students may enroll for the 8:00-11:00 AM session or the 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM session, and they will need to sign up to take the ACT test to be given on July 13.

FBLA Salad Supper to help pay state conference expenses is Friday, March 15, from 3:30-6:00 at the High School Cafeteria. $5 for 12 and up and $4 for 11 and below. Chef Salad and dessert.
This Friday is the last day to order a yearbook with personalization. You can order online or bring your orders and payment to Ms. DeWitt or Mrs. Riddle by Friday. The prices are $42 for a plain yearbook and $48 for a personalized yearbook, plus $3 per icon.

Congrats to these Magazine FFA members!!! Emily Staton received 1st place in Extemporaneous Speaking and 1st in Discussion Meet! Ethan got to compete with Emily in the final round of Discussion Meet and received 4th place! The Conduct of Chapter Meeting team received 1st tonight as well! It’s members are Connor Ryan, Autumn Morris, Kaylyn Dickens, Emma Askins, Kylie Robinson, Brooklyn Krigbaum, Laura House, and Ashton Droemer. Very proud of these kids and how well they represented Magazine!

8th grade - we will be decorating lockers for basketball homecoming from 3:30-5:30 on Thursday after school. If you want to stay to work, please do. Make sure you have a ride home at 5:30.
The Magazine Conservation Academy students at Toltec Mounds Archaeological Park. They learned about the people that inhabited the area and built the mounds. There were 18 original mounds, but only 3 remain due to destruction from settler farming. They also learned how they used weapons, such as the atlatl spear and blow gun, to hunt.
Fourth grade will present our program honoring the veterans tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 8th. We will begin at 2:00 in the Magazine Elementary Cafeteria. Thank you to Mrs. Hopper and Mrs. Cooley for the decorations and to Mrs Smith for the programs. Thank you to Mrs. Nietert and Mrs. Chappell for helping prepare the students! We hope you can join us!
The Senior Class will be having a Haunted Hayride Monday and Tuesday nights, the 29th and 30th, on the cross country course behind the football field. Cost is $5 and we will be open from 8:00 until 10:30 PM.
The school will be providing a fan bus to the Lavaca football game Friday. Students and parents may ride. Students must have a permission slip signed by parents to ride the bus. Students under 12 years old must be accompanied by their parent/guardian. You must provide your own money for entry to the ball game and for food. Departure time will be 5:45 pm from the Arena.
